Join us for a soap making! In this beginning soapmaking class, we will be focusing on ingredients that are moisturizing and soothing. This class will show you step by step how to make a batch of cold process soap from scratch. This traditional soapmaking method relies on saponification, or the chemical reaction of fatty acids with an alkali, to produce long-lasting natural soap bars. We will thoroughly cover the ingredients required, tools needed, and how to safely work with sodium hydroxide at home.
After an instructor-led demonstration shows how to make soap from start to almost-finish, we will end with a hands-on portion, where students will scent and pour a moisturizing citrus summer soap.
Each student will take home a one-pound batch of soap, then cut and cure the bars at home, and have their own handcrafted soaps to enjoy afterwards!
Please bring an old hand or bath towel to wrap your soap and wear long sleeves and an apron.
