THE TRUE STORY OF A FRENCH JEWISH SPY IN NAZI GERMANY
FEBRUARY 5, 2019, 7:00PM
Chabad Jewish Center of Petaluma welcomes Mrs. Marthe Cohn as a guest speaker on Tuesday, February 5, at 7 p.m. at Santa Rosa Junior College Petaluma.
Open to the entire community!
This year marks 80 years from Kristallnacht when Nazis took to the streets of Germany. They torched synagogues. Vandalized Jewish homes, schools, and businesses. They murdered and arrested Jews simply for being Jewish. The anniversary of Kristallnacht, considered the first main event of the Holocaust, comes as the Jewish community is once again in mourning – this time after an armed man opened fire in the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, where 11 people were killed in what is being described as the worst anti-Semitic attack in American history.
Ninety-eight-year-old Holocaust survivor Marthe Cohn became a member of the intelligence service of the French First Army and was able to retrieve inside information about Nazi troop movements by slipping behind enemy lines.
At age 80, Marthe was awarded France’s highest military honor, the Medaille Militaire, joining the likes of Winston Churchill and other outstanding wartime heroes. The award officially acknowledged the heroic exploits of a beautiful young Jewish woman who faced death every day as she sought to help defeat the Nazi empire. At the time of the award, not even her children knew the extent of her service.
Let us unite to send a clear message against hate and intolerance. Never Again!
